SETTING

THE BASICS
Something has happened to the fabric of space/time. The Infinity Gems, which control different aspects of the universe, have shattered and spread across the different worlds, looking for appropriate hosts to bring them back to where they belong. But the situation isn't as easy as that - the destruction of the gems has created rips in the universe, rips that threaten existence itself. The inhabitants of Knowhere have found a way to identify those who have bonded with the gems and bring them into this universe. Here their purpose is twofold - to find a way to repair the gems, and to patch up the rips in the universe before they spiral out of control. Once these tasks are complete, the inhabitants will be more than happy to send whoever they've brought in home. -Yes, they know how, it's just that it's too dangerous to try sending people back to other universes at the moment. But the galaxy, the multiverse, is huge and there's a lot of work to be done before then. Better get used to living in space.

KNOWHERE

Located at the edge of the known universe (the Rip), Knowhere is the decapitated head of a being called a Celestial. Providing refuge and a handy observation deck for everyone seeking to study the Rip, it's commonly known that one day Knowhere will simply cease to exist in the universe. Anyone, regardless of species or time that they originated from, can arrive in Knowhere, making it serve as a hub for the entire universe. Its exact location within the universe is unknown as is its exact size, although rough estimates have it being over five miles long and at least two miles wide. Most of the main foot traffic of Knowhere are pathways that criss-cross empty spaces, multiple stories tall. Not enough for any vehicle to fly through, but individuals gifted with the ability to fly should find it no problem.

Knowhere has experienced a recent inexplicable dip in population and no longer represents the crowded metropolis it once did. There's still a significant population, however - think about 100,000 or so - who won't blink at the new arrivals. After all, it happens all the time and who are they to judge so long as they can continue what they've been doing.

IMPORTANT LOCATIONS

CONTINUUM CORTEX

Located in the brain stem of Knowhere, the Continuum is where individuals first arrive and allows for the instant teleportation to anywhere in the universe, so long as an individual is wearing their passport bracelet. Beyond use for missions approved by the Luminals, use of the Continuum Cortex for personal reasons is strictly forbidden due to the current fragile nature of space/time.

STARLIN'S BAR
The place to be, Starlin's specializes in a number of cosmic drinks and bar fights on any given night. Generally packed full of various aliens, it's a good place to meet and socialize without bringing too much attention to yourself.

MEETING HALL
Where the representative government of Knowhere meets to decide important matters concerning the entire population, transports are generally not going to find themselves using this room for anything other than mandatory meetings concerning their future. And as any and all information can typically be given out over the passport bracelets, the chances of that happening are rare.

MARKETPLACE LEVEL

Located somewhere in upper half of the head, the market is full of things from weaponry from the other end of the universe to things like pasta and apple-like fruit. Anything can be found here, similar but not quite exactly like anything found on Earth. Except for coffee makers - those look exactly the same.

OBSERVATION DECK
Located in one of the eye sockets of the head and protected from the vacuum of space by some sort of transparent shielding, the multi-level observation deck of the Rip is one of the few quiet places on Knowhere. Individuals can stand or sit and bask in the wonder that is the colorful yet destructive sight that is the Rip as scientists and the generally curious of Knowhere keep quietly busy around them. Individuals who cause a stir will generally be asked to leave, and if they resist, will be forcefully escorted out.

HANGAR
Mysteriously currently absent of any space ships, the hangar is a wide open space located near the severed neck of the head. The three doors are controlled from a glassed-in room in the center of the bay in the middle of the wall. Characters can put in a request to open one of the doors if they're the kind of individual who can survive in the vacuum of space. When asked why it's empty, characters will only be told "Why fly here when you can just teleport?"

NPCS & MAJOR ALIEN RACES

THE LUMINALS
The Luminals are Knowhere's resident security force/superhero team. Not pleased that they can't help the problem plaguing the universe, they're probably best avoided. However, as they've been tasked with helping out the transports in times of dire need, no one is going to be that lucky. Their leader is known to be short-tempered and doesn't suffer fools or stupid questions - she's quick to make her (negative) opinions known.

CONTINUUM CORTEX STAFF
The individuals charged with the teleportation systems of the Continuum Cortex, they also double as the welcoming committee and the individuals with the largest amount of interaction with the transport population. They are the ones who are in charge of giving missions and monitoring the progress of both reconstruction of the infinity gems and repairing the rifts in space/time. If an individual is looking for a sympathetic ear, find a member of this staff. They're nearly always busy, unfortunately, but maybe one of them will set aside the fate of the universe for a chat.

THE COUNCIL
The representative government of Knowhere, the Council makes and passes all legislative decrees. Currently no transport is allowed to seek representation in the Council, but if an individual or a group were to make a significantly persuasive case, that may change. But remember - the transports are their guests, they expect them to abide by the same laws as everyone else or else face the consequences.

HEAD OF SECURITY
De-facto highest authority figure in Knowhere, although the Head of Security answers to the Council as a whole. Mysterious and unseen. Not a Soviet cosmonaut dog. Probably.

SKRULLS
A race of green shape-shifting aliens constantly at war with the Kree. Who do you trust? MORE INFORMATION HERE.

KREE
A militarized race suffering from an evolutionary dead end and excessive amounts of pride, come in pink and blue. Constantly at war with the Skrulls. MORE INFORMATION HERE.

SHI'AR
Bird people who have it in for bird-like cosmic forces of destruction and rebirth. MORE INFORMATION HERE.

TITANS
[ blank entry ]

BADOON
Reptilian race divided on gender lines. Supposedly going to take over the universe in the future but who trusts such sketchy information? MORE INFORMATION HERE.

& VARIOUS OTHER RACES
MORE INFORMATION HERE.
