APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN.
they will close on october 12th, at 12:00 am cst.

Before applying to Knowhere, please read the Rules and FAQ. Look over the Taken and Reserved lists before deciding on a character to apply for.

Remember that Knowhere does not accept CR AUs, Fandom OCs, Fandom AUs, or characters whose personality and background would be more than 1/4 headcanon. Original characters are appable to Knowhere by players who have a canon character currently in game. You may apply for 2 characters per application cycle and play no more than 4 characters at any given time.

Fill out your application completely and post it to a journal here on Dreamwidth as an entry. Please remember to denote which parts of your application are purely headcanon. Then comment to this entry with a link to your application, and a header formatted as such: CHARACTER NAME | CANON. Note if your application is a reserve or challenge where applicable.

Applications are judged on four criteria. (1) Display of distinct and consistent character voice. (2) Depth and basis of characterization. (3) Quality of writing, including grammar and syntax. (4) Completeness of application and adherence to Knowhere's guidelines.

The application team will respond to your comment within a week with one of three responses: APPROVED, REVISIONS, or DECLINED. Applications requiring revisions will have 3 days to submit said revisions before their application expires.

The application team will always try to explain thoroughly why an application requires revisions or has been declined. If you have any questions about the status or verdict of your application, please contact the moderators.

CANON CHARACTER APPLICATIONS

( OOC INFORMATION )
name: Your name/nickname/handle.
age: You must be at least 15 to apply to Knowhere.
contact: An email, dreamwidth or plurk account.
other characters: Who else do you play at Knowhere?

( IC INFORMATION )
name: Your character's full name in western order (first name last name). Note that this is the spelling and order we will use to create your character's community tags. If there is no consensus about the spelling of your character's name (for instance, if you are playing from an anime or manga with no official translation), we trust you to choose one spelling and remain consistent.
canon: What show/book/movie/webcomic/etc is this character from?
reference: Please include two links: one as a reference for your character, specifically, and one for your canon as a whole. If you feel that there is no adequate source, you are welcome to link us your own summaries of canon and character history.
canon point: From when are you taking your character? This can be an episode or chapter number, or a descriptor such as "the end of the film" or "between the second and third books." Also, please describe the last significant event to occur for your character in at least a sentence.

background: In at least two paragraphs (300 words), please explain the setting of your character's canon and their place within it.

Setting should give context for the world your character inhabits and how their world impacts them. Is this a world run off magic or futuristic technology? Did your character live under a totalitarian government or matrix-like conspiracy? What rules or laws were at play? Who are the most significant figures and what are the most significant events?

Your character's place in their canon should explain how they impact their world. Are they the leader of a country or a common thief? Are they the last of their species or do they have unique powers? How visible would they have been in canon? How many people would recognize them? What actions have they taken that have affected the world? What are their most important relationships?

This section need not cover each of these questions, but must explain your canon's world and your character's part in it. Essentially, think of this section as giving the app team context for the rest of your application.

personality: In at least 500 words, explain your character's personality and how you intend to play them. A thorough personality section will explain both a character's strengths and weaknesses, as well as their morality, motivations and how they interact with others. Additionally, if your character has undergone significant changes or character growth, explain how this has occurred and what they are like as a result.

powers and abilities: Please list your character’s canon abilities. Anything that would be considered abnormal for a civilian human to have in terms of skillset, physiology, magical powers, etc. should be listed. Additionally, if any of these abilities can be considered “game-breaking,” please explain how you intend to limit these abilities in-game.

( GAME INFORMATION )
infinity gem: Select one of the six Infinity Gems, as detailed here. This gem should line up with your characters’ motivations and desires. How these match up is open to interpretation, so please explain in at least one paragraph how your character’s soul matches up with this gem’s predilections.
power: Select one of the two powers associated with your character’s chosen Infinity Gem. This is the ability your character will gain upon entering Knowhere.
housing: Please select two numbers between 1 and 16. These numbers are associated with barracks in Knowhere, and one of these numbers will be assigned to your character for housing. Please be aware that as there are a limited amount of spots per round, your character may end up in your second choice.
inventory: Please list what your character will be bringing with them to Knowhere. This is limited to what a character would have had on their person at their canon point. Please note that pets cannot be brought in immediately, but can be acquired through item regains later on. This inventory list should not exceed 5 items. Grouped items, such as a quiver of arrows, a set of clothing or a set of paints, would count as 1 item.

thread sample: Please link us to at thread of at least 10 comments between your character and another. A good sample will display a distinct and consistent character voice and provide a good example of a character's reactions. Samples may be linked from the Knowhere test drive meme, another meme or musebox post, a dear_mun/dear_player/voicetest sample or past game samples. Smut, AU, and TFLN threads are not acceptable samples. Single entries are not acceptable for this sample-- it must be a thread between your character and at least one other.
log sample: Your log sample should be written originally for the game and respond to one of the following prompts: (1) A brawl has broken out at Starlin’s Bar! How does your character respond? (2) Your character has been granted a conversation with one of the Continuum Cortex Staff. How does this go? A good log sample will include both introspection and action. How does your character act and why do they act that way? Log samples should be at least 200 words.

Secondly, when it comes to those that have wormed their way into Rocket's little inner circle, they've got a comrade for life. He'll fight to the death for those he considers his friends and will go to any lengths he has to in order to help them if they need it. Remember though, it takes awhile to really earn this fuzzball's respect and even then, he likes to pretend he doesn't care for a good long while. This isn't to say that he doesn't have a good heart. Rocket does know how to be sympathetic and kind. He doesn't show it often, but he does have a big heart under all that fur and has been known to show that care and kindness when the situation calls for it, especially if the situation resonates with familiarity to something he's been through himself.. As mentioned before, he really does care for those he's close to, especially the other Guardians, and does his best to be a good friend and teammate to them whenever he can.

Third, Rocket is smart. Very smart. When the robots on Halfworld gave all the animals their intelligence, most of the creatures gained a fair amount, considering the group would need leaders. Rocket was one of those individuals that was in a position of power and with it came a lot of intelligence in order to make on the fly decisions that were best for the group, help him solve problems, etc. Now, he isn't so smart that he can't be fooled because he makes his fair share of mistakes--he'll just generally blame them on others instead of taking the blame himself. This intelligence also helps him when he's faced with trying to decide if someone is worth helping or not because, let's face it, some people can be conniving and are just trying to trick others.

Fourth, this raccoon is a hot head. He's got one hell of a temper and will draw his laser pistols or whatever weapon he may be toting without even batting an eyelash. He doesn't take kindly to people that look down on him for being a raccoon and will prove just how capable he is by beating the crap out of whoever is laughing at him for having fur. Once he gets going, it can be hard to stop him from running his mouth too much and sometimes his temper can get him and those he's with in more trouble than intended. It just comes with the territory really.

Last, but not least, Rocket has a very strong moral compass. Having seen the best and worst of things, he'd really rather prefer others to not have to go through the same things so he does his best, when sent out on a mission, to complete it and find a happy resolution to the problem. Now, that doesn't mean he doesn't get his hands dirty and really mess some stuff up, but he does, ultimately, want things to end on a good note. (As seen when he managed to talk Thanos down rather than engaging him right away for fear of harming everyone else that was in the area.) If it can be done peacefully, he'll take that route, even if it takes away most of his fun.
